Introduction of Shanghai International Industry Fair
Shanghai International Industry Fair (¡°Shanghai
Industry Fair¡± for short) is the only state-level large-scale
industry fair in China with high tech equipment as the principal
for transactions and exhibition, which is held in November,
every year in Shanghai.

With ¡°informatization brings along industrialization¡±
as its theme, Shanghai International Industry Fair emphasizes
on modern equipment and engineering technology, combines informatization
with industrialization, and brings the function of transactions
in products, property right and technology into full play so
that this fair may become a center for exhibition, transaction
and assessment of high technologies as well as restructuring
of conventional industries through high technologies.

Shanghai International Industry Fair serves
the whole country, supports the development in the western region
and is oriented to the international market. It constitutes
an exchange platform for Chinese and foreign enterprises as
well as research institutes, institutions of higher education
and technology property right institutions in the whole country
to show their image, make new clients and promote transactions;
it is also an important location for accelerating application
of scientific and technical results to industrial production
through combination of production, education and research. Shanghai
International Industry Fair invites world top 500 enterprises,
transnational enterprise groups and international risk investment
institutions to participate in the fair to make it a window
for cooperation and exchange in the scientific and technical
circles and industrial circles in China and other countries.
Through years of fostering, it is now a large high-level fair
in the Asian-Pacific region and even in the whole world that
is quite authoritative, international, marketized and normalized.

Started in 1999, Shanghai International Industry
Fair has been held successfully for six sessions. After six
years of improvement, its level has been raised in all respects.
As approved by the State Council, it is now the only state-level
industry fair in China, organized by seven central ministries
and commissions, including National Development and Reform Commission,
and Shanghai Municipal Government.
Shanghai International Industry Fair has extended
its scale from 15,000 square meters in the first session to
85,500 square meters in the sixth session. Number of participating
enterprises increased from over 400 for the first session to
1,286 for the sixth, the number of booths from 800 for the first
session to 3,359 for the sixth, and the number of visitors went
up from 220,000 man times to 381,000 for the sixth.
The volume of the three major transaction at
the fair rose from USD0.3 billion for the first session to USD2.57
billion for the sixth.

Shanghai International Industry Fair has become
more globalized with increasing number of overseas enterprises
participating in it. The number of booths went up from over
50 in the first session to 899 in the sixth. Overseas participating
enterprises came from more than 20 countries and regions including
USA, Germany, UK, France, Dutch, Canada, Russia, Switzerland,
Israel, White Russia, Japan, Korea, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia,
Taiwan and Hong Kong. Exhibition delegations were sent from
nearly 10 countries and regions including Japan, Korea, Singapore,
India, Russia, Belarus and Taiwan and participants included
those from top 500 enterprises like Microsoft, General Electric,
Siemens, IBM, Roche, Johnson & Johnson, Emerson, 3M, Motorola,
FAG, Volvo BASF, Bayer, Tyco, BP, Toyota and Shanghai Bell-Alcatel.

Shanghai International Industry Fair serves
more and more areas in China. Besides enterprises in Shanghai,
participating enterprises came from 28 provinces, municipalities
autonomous regions. Governments in Beijing, Shanxi, Shandong,
Guangdong, Henan, Shenzhen, Ningbo, Harbin and Hangzhou sent
their delegations to the exhibition. There were 582 participating
enterprises (institutions) and over 1263 booths making up 37.6%
of the total number of booths available. Participants in the
event included a batch of Chinese enterprises holding leading
positions in their respective sectors, such as Baosteel, Shanghai
Electric, Petrochina, Sinopec, China Mobile, SVA, Dazhu Laser,
Huaxin Digital, Shanghai Pharmacy, Huabei Science & Technology,
and Changjiang Computer.To make Shanghai International Industry
Fair a worldwide famous large industry fair, the organizing
committee decides to hold the seventh Shanghai International
Industry Fair at New International Exhibition Center in Pudong
New Area, Shanghai during November4¨C9, 2005, having 85,500 square
meter exhibition area and offering 3,500 stalls. SIF2005 will
include specialized shows for electronic information, manufacturing
technology, electric power and control equipment as well as
scientific & technological innovations. It will introduce
tens of thousands of exhibits and thousands of items for investment,
technology and property right, announce projects for foreign
investment, and introduce risk investment funds for exchange,
transaction and negotiation for Chinese and foreign investors.

potential. Shanghai International Industry Fair will show high
tech products, offer up-to-date information about science and
technology, and provide a completely new stage and window for
economic and trading cooperation to Chinese and foreign enterprises.
